It was in 1969 that a wealthy American from Puerto Rico was flying over the southeast end of the Dominican Republic. Looking for a place to establish an Merchant Marine School, he came across an an isolated strip of beach with sand so white and the ocean so clear and tranquil. Protected by a coral reel which extends the length of the beach (8km) he had just discovered what is known today as Bavaro Beach.

Persuading other fellow American investors, they purchased a piece of this land and open the first hotel the "Punta Cana Club".
